I spoke to Sophia Bush, 33, on International Women’s Day because she is such an amazing role model and mentor to women — so of course, I asked her about selfies! Ha! See what she told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY about her workout regime, bouncing back from a bad day and giving back.
Sophia told me exclusively about her confidence secrets:
“The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that confidence is not a destination that you arrive at — confidence is more like a mood, it comes and goes. It’s fluid and for me the goal is when I’m not feeling great, just having a rough day, to take a deep breath and say, this is okay, I’m allowed this mood in the same way I’m allowed to have the best day ever or be proud of a success. Highs and lows are the things that really shape us.
It’s been about giving myself the permission, not wallow in it, ask what the first step is out of the basement today. I find messages or thoughts that inspire me and make me feel alive, which is a great way to start, and I love to share that with people. If I’m having a sh*t day and scrolling through Instagram and a friend posts something great, I’m like, I want to do this with someone! I try to make sure that the things I like, I’m sharing with something else.”

“I’m not a selfie taker,” Sophia told me. “I wanted to post a video this morning to let everyone know about the EcoTools My True Beauty campaign and I was like, this is so awkward! How do people film themselves all the time? It’s usually things I like looking at that I want to post, not so much myself. But fans want it so I’ll post pics from events once in a while, or I posted cute sneakers the other day! It this a dorky thing?”
As for keeping in shape, it’s all about time management: “I don’t have a regime — it’s too hard with my job. I typically work a 90 hour work week so I don’t get to the gym very often. I worked out last week, I went to a yoga class, then on the weekend, I went to a spin class. I felt like I won the lottery because I worked out twice that week!”

“I prefer when I’m on break because I love getting into that self-care habit, hiking with my girlfriends or dogs, going to yoga or spinning — it feels good to take care of yourself so I miss that when I’m in full swing for the show.”
