Whoa! Hillary Clinton absolutely obliterated Bernie Sanders in her home state of New York during the Democratic primary on April 19. The Democratic front runner totally ran away with the vote, and you’ll never believe how much she won by. See the results, here.
Hillary Clinton, 68, made New York proud on April 19, when she won the Democratic primary by a landslide. The front runner completely left Bernie Sanders, 74, in the dust in the city where both of the candidates are from. We have all the details on the explosive election, right here.
For the first time in decades, the New York primaries were actually a critical election in the race to the White House. Usually the nominee is decided long before the vote reaches the Empire State, but Hillary and Bernie have been neck-and-neck in pledged delegates. Hillary took home 60.5% of the vote, 20 points more than Bernie’s 39.5%. She got to cast a vote for herself in the morning, and clearly it helped her to victory. She must be so proud to take home the win in her home state. Which means it must be that much more bitter for Bernie, who was born and raised in New York City.
As soon as the election was called in New York, the Empire State Building changed from dark red (the color that announced that Donald Trump won the Republican election) to dark blue. Had Bernie won, the iconic landmark would have lit up light blue.
