Tonight’s theme on ‘Dancing With The Stars’ is one of our favorites of the year: it’s Switch Up week! See how temporary partners Jodie Sweetin and Val Chmerkovskiy did, as well as our other faves this season.
Dancing with the Stars had the couples paired with new partners for one night only in the April 18 episode, and we couldn’t be more excited! To name just a few, Nyle DiMarco and Sharna Burgess danced the Viennese waltz, and Ginger Zee and Mark Ballas danced the salsa for judges Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli, guest judge Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Carrie Ann Inaba! See how it all went down during switch up night.
Let the matchmaking begin! Wanya Morris and Witney Carson kick off the evening with a smooth tango to James Bay‘s “Hold Back The River” (and the Grammy-nominated winner performs live — so awesome)! They look amazing in coordinating black and teal outfits as they sweep across the stage. Len thinks it was “hectic” — a critique that earned him plentiful booing — but Bruno loved it and Carrie Ann agreed. Wanya and Witney get a score of 30/40! Next up are Kim Fields and Keo Motsepe. They do a beautiful, classic Viennese waltz to “These Arms Of Mine” by Otis Redding but the chemistry is just slightly off and it’s a 28/40 for them.
Doug Flutie and Peta Murgatroyd do an amazing, high-energy tango to “Black and Gold” by Sam Sparro. Bruno says it “wasn’t bad at all” and liked Doug’s determination. Carrie Ann doesn’t think they missed a step! It’s a 7 from each of the judges, for a total of 28/40.
James Bay performs his new single “Let It Go” as Artem Chigvintsev and Jenna Johnson do an incredible, acrobatic dance in accompaniment. Then last week’s winner Ginger Zee and Mark Ballas pair up for a ridiculously good salsa! They wear eye-popping yellow and black outfits as they shake and shimmy. “No matter who the partner, you’re someone to watch!” Carrie Ann tells Ginger. It’s an 8 from all four judges for the highest score of the night so far — 32!
Antonio Brown and Karina Smirnoff dance the cha cha to “Son of a Preacher” and it’s an awesome, explosive display. For someone who is perpetually late to rehearsal, Antonio danced excellently! “I’m a big fan,” Maks tells them. “Everything shines.” It’s a 7 from Bruno, a 6 from Len, a 7 from Carrie and a 6 from Maks for a total of 26. Ouch.
Next up are Paige VanZant and Sasha Farber, who do a sexy rumba to “Perfect” by One Direction and it really is just that! They look great in shades of blush and dance even better. “You are more than capable of winning the show,” Maks tells Sasha. It’s an 8 from Bruno, Len and Carri, plus a 7 from Maks, which equals 31! Nice. Then Von Miller and Lindsay Arnold bring the country as they dance the jive — so fun and everyone thinks they were super creative! They get a 29 — not bad.

Nyle DiMarco and Sharna Burgess are a match made in heaven as they waltz to “I Get to Love You” by Ruelle. Surrounded by artificial mist, Nyle and Sharna do a beautiful job dancing and setting a romantic mood! Carrie Ann is actually brought to tears. It’s a 9 from all of the judges except for Maks…who gives a 10 for a total of 37! Amazing!
Last but not least, Jodie Sweetin is paired up with Val Chmerkovskiy for the pasodoble. They put on an electrifying performance complete with laser special effects to “Under Control” by Alesso, and it’s a definite improvement from last week for Jodie! They get 35/40 for the second highest score of the night.
Which couple did you root for tonight, HollywoodLifers? Did you agree with the judges’ scores?
