The Warriors are the best regular season team in the history of professional basketball. They brought their record-setting 73 regular season wins into the first round of the playoffs at home against Houston and properly whooped on their Western Conference competitors. Despite their MVP player, Stephen Curry, 28, rolling his ankle while playing defense and posting limited minutes in the second half of game one, the defending champion Warrior team still beat the outmatched Rockets team 104-78. Steph’s status will be a game-time decision for game 2. The point guard could enjoy an extended rest should he sit out the second in the best of 7 series as game 3 will not be until April 21, four days after his injury happened on the 17th. Steph sat out a few games during the season and he was missed.
The Warriors went 2-1 without their star on the floor before playoff action. When he stepped off the court during game one of this series, the Warriors numbers dropped off a cliff. Their three-point capabilities, shooting percentage and total offense suffered with him on the bench. Luckily for Golden State fans, the Rockets are not strong enough of a team to capitalize on the loss felt by Steph’s injury and the Warriors won anyway.
The Warriors should be just fine with or without Steph in this first series. It will be in the later rounds of the West that the Warriors will face bigger challenges in teams like San Antonio Spurs or the OKC Thunder. The Warriors will need a strong Steph along with every player doing their job well if they expect to repeat as champions.
What do you think HollywoodLifers? Will the Warriors run through the playoffs with ease or will Steph’s injury spoil their chances of going down as the greatest team in the history of the NBA?
