The haters can take a seat. I’m glad ‘Once Upon A Time’ finally introduced a gay romance on the show. I really like Dorothy and Ruby together, but I just wish I’d gotten more time to see their relationship grow.
Dorothy and Ruby found love on Once Upon A Time, and it’s the show’s first gay romance. I loved seeing them get their happy ending, but did anyone else feel like their romance was tied up in a bow a little too quickly? I really wanted to see their relationship evolve, and not be taken care of in just one episode.

Poor Mulan is always a bridesmaid and never a bride. Despite her feelings for Aurora, it was Ruby and Dorothy who got a chance at romance on the April 17 episode of OUAT. Ruby found her way back to Dorothy, stricken with a sleeping curse, and awakened her with true love’s kiss.
Okay, so I’m all for this romance. I feel like I could 100% ship #RubySlippers if given enough time to get emotionally invested in their relationship. I wish I got to see their romance progress over more episodes. We dedicated half of a season to Frozen, so my request is totally doable.
I just don’t think it’s good storytelling that I’m supposed to fall in love with this relationship in a mere 45 minutes. I’ve barely gotten to know Dorothy. I feel like I don’t know who she is.
This new Dorothy, now played by Teri Reeves, was just introduced a few episodes before. Both Ruby and Dorothy’s characters deserved more than what they were given.
Maybe the showrunners have plans for us to see more of Ruby and Dorothy’s relationship. I hope so. All the relationships on the show — Snow and David, Hook and Emma, etc. — have all had season-long arcs to really delve deep into their relationships. That’s what I want for Ruby and Dorothy. But can someone please get Mulan some love?
HollywoodLifers, what do you think of Dorothy and Ruby’s romance? Let me know!
