G-Eazy (not to be confused with Young Jeezy, 38, Breezy, Yeezy or Drizzy) will rock the Sahara stage at Coachella in Indio, California on April 15 at 9:10 PM PST (that’s 12:10 on April 16 for all you East Coasters.) The Bay Area rapper is looking to make a huge splash at the 2016 festival so hip-hop fans better have all their festival fashions ready before catching this much-watch set.
G-Eazy (born Gerald Gillum) knows he needs to wow the crowd at the massive music festival, and he plans on doing that with the same technology that brought Tupac Shakur from the dead. “Yeah, yeah, I’m bringing out a Mac Dre hologram,” G-Eazy told Larry King, 82, on Larry’s Ora.Tv web series, per The Desert Sun. “Not to spoil the secret, but I think this won’t air ‘til afterwards so…”
Tupac was resurrected to perform alongside his Death Row Records label mates, Snoop Dogg, 44, and Dr. Dre, 51, in 2012, per the Boston Globe. The 2-D video projection rapped “Hail Mary” and “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted” in one of the most unforgettable performances in Coachella history. G-Eazy is ready to top that with a virtual version of Mac Dre.
Andre “Mac Dre” Hicks was a huge force in the Bar Area rap scene, according to Time magazine. By the time he was 34, he had released a staggering 18 albums. However, his career and life was cut short in 2004. Mac Dre was shot to death while leaving a performance in Kansas City, Missouri, and his murder remains an unsolved mystery.
It seems like G-Eazy wants to pay respect to one of his major influences at one of the biggest events in the world. However, even if G-Eazy doesn’t bring out the holograms, he has his playful flow, slick look and huge hits to properly kick off the three-day music festival.
