Could Rey’s mom really be Rogue One’s Jyn Erso? Now that would be amazing. While you may have your own ideas about Rey’s parentage, after looking at this new evidence, you might think differently. It’s a Star Wars theory of epic proportions!
*The timing of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Rogue One is coming out one year before Star Wars: Episode VIII and one year after Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It can’t be a total coincidence that Rogue One is coming out when it’s coming out. Seriously, Rogue One has to have something to do with this new Star Wars saga.
*Rey and Jyn’s accents.
Okay, this is really obvious. But Rey and Jyn are both British. There has to be a reason, right? John Boyega, who plays Finn, is British in real life, and in the movie he’s American. There’s a creative reason for everything when it comes to Star Wars!
*Daisy Ridley tried to deny the theory — but not really.
Daisy tried to play down the rumor going around at the 2016 MTV Movie Awards. But we don’t think this theory is going anywhere — until Rey’s parentage is revealed. “I’m not being funny you guys, but just because she’s white and got brown hair… it doesn’t mean she’s my mom,” she told MTV.

*The timeline kind of makes sense.
Rogue One is set before Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope. There’s a 30-year gap between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. Jyn looks to be about the same age as Luke and Leia in A New Hope. Rey was born 11 years after the Battle of Endor, so Jyn could have definitely had Rey and been forced to give her up on Jakku for protection. Maybe Jyn is not related to Rey at all. Maybe the standalone Star Wars movie is truly standalone.

*Rey’s parentage is important to the “entire galaxy.”
“We’re going to make sure that that answer is deeply and profoundly satisfying,” Episode VIII director Colin Trevorrow told ET. “Rey is a character that is important in this universe, not just in the context ofThe Force Awakens, but in the entire galaxy.”
