Bayern Munich have been tipped by many experts to go as far as Barcelona and Real Madrid in this season’s tournament, and boast a number of high-profile talents in their squad, including Thomas Muller, Franck Ribery and Robert Lewandowski. If these guys play well you don’t need to be a genius quizmaster to know it won’t get well for Benfica.
But Benfica will be buoyed that they only lost the first game 1-0, and in the return leg at the Stadium of Light they will play with a lot of attacking freedom being the team that isn’t expected to progress. They only need to win by 2 goals to get through, but can’t afford to concede one because then this tie will be over!
The Eagles will also have precarious teenage talent Renato Sanches in their midfield. The top talent is wanted by a host of Premier League teams and is capable of a moment of sublime magic that can decide any game. Bayern will have to keep on their toes if they want to keep him under wraps.
Bayern Munich triumphed in the first game, with a narrow 1-0 win, thanks to a headed goal by Chilean midfield dynamo Arturo Vidal. Will he get on the scoresheet again?
It’s hard to imagine a semi-final of the Champions League without Bayern Munich, since they’re normally a permanent fixture in the last four. They will surely be too strong for this Benfica team.
