Uh oh! The murder of former New Orleans Saints star Will Smith has taken a crazy new turn. Police now say he had a loaded gun in his car when when he got into a road rage argument with Cardell Hayes, who shot and killed the ex-NFL player.
Yikes! Will Smith, 34, was packing heat when he was shot to death in a road rage argument with Cardell Hayes, 28 who was also armed. Apparently he wasn’t able to get to his weapon in time to defend himself against his attacker. New Orleans Police revealed the shocking development on Apr. 12 so keep reading on for more new details about the investigation.
NOLA PD executed a search warrant on Will’s Mercedes and Cardell’s red Hummer H2 and recovered a fully-loaded revolver inside Cardell’s vehicle and a fully-loaded 9 millimeter handgun inside Will’s SUV. Detectives noted that no bullet casings were found inside either vehicle and no ballistic evidence was recovered to show that either weapon was fired during the incident. Cardell used a .45 caliber revolver when he shot and killed Will so he was rolling with dual weapons that night!
The news should definitely help out Cardell’s claims that he felt threatened and that’s why he opened fire on the former New Orleans Saints Defensive End. He’s currently being held on $1 million bond on second degree murder charges, but the fact that Will was also armed could go a long way towards helping his defense.
Detectives noted that the investigation is still ongoing and they’re interviewing witnesses — including Will’s wife Raquel and the two passengers in Will’s car who escaped unhurt. Raquel was hit in the leg by bullets fired at her late husband, she was hospitalized but is going to be okay.
The news that both men were arms seems to match up to a witness’ comments right after the shooting occurred. In a video, a man mentions that the two men began to argue and one was heard saying “I have a gun” while the other said “I got one too’ and he grabs the gun and he shoots him,” referring to Cardell firing on Will. How scary!
HollywoodLifers, do you think the fact that Will also had a gun will have an impact on the defense’s case?
