Talk about a royal snub! Prince William and Kate Middleton met India’s biggest movie stars during a gala at the Taj Mahal on April 10. Yet, two names not on the guest list were Rubina Ali and Azharuddin — the stars of ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ — who were heartbroken they weren’t invited!
Maybe Rubina Ali, 17, and Zaharuddin Ismail’s, 17, invitations were lost in the mail? The two children who captured the world’s hearts by starring in Slumdog Millionaire were shockingly snubbed during Prince William, 33, and Kate Middleton’s, 34, visit to India. The two were even left out when Kate and Prince William toured the slums of their hometown of Mumbai!

“We were really excited to meet [Prince William and Kate,” Azharuddin told the Daily Mail. Both he and Rubina “waited for the invitation to meet him but it never came.” Instead, their co-star, Anil Kapoor, 59, was invited to attend the April 10 gala at the Taj Mahal Palace, where more than 200 of India’s film, sports and business stars got to hang out with the royal couple. If that snub wasn’t bad enough, hours before the huge gala, Kate and William actually met children from the Mumbai’s slums that inspired the film. So, while they saw children like those depicted in Slumdog Millionaire, the royals didn’t meet the actual children from the movie. Ouch. That’s got to hurt – and it does!
“I would have joined the gala dinner party,” Rubina told the Daily Mail. “It would have been my pleasure and honor to meet royals on their first trip to India.” Azharuddin added that he was “excited” at the chance of meeting the young royal couple, “but they came in my home city and left without meeting us.” That’s so heartbreaking!
“If they didn’t have time to meet us separately, it would have been good to at least see us for few seconds in the reception and dinner hosted for them in Mumbai,” Azharuddin added, “but sadly nobody contacted us.”
Shunning the Slumdog kids while sleeping in an “opulent palace” doesn’t put Kate and William in that great of a light. Prince William and Kate are staying at two Taj hotels during their trip through India and Bhutan, with their Rajput Suite at the Taj Mahal Palace boasting “marble floors, arches and a royal color palette.” It also costs $6500 per night. While Kate and William can clearly pay that massive hotel bill, it seems they couldn’t afford an extra invitation or two for Rubina and Azharuddin.
