That explains a lot! Donald Trump had his family in tow during his April 12 CNN town hall with Anderson Cooper, and his kids Ivanka and Eric address once and for all why they won’t be voting for their dad in the New York primary on April 19. Here’s the scoop.
It was a family affair at Donald Trump’s April 12 CNN town hall, because he brought along his wife Melania, daughter Tiffany, and his son Donald Jr.. However, all eyes were on his two children Ivanka and Eric, because on April 11 news broke that they will not be voting for their dad in the New York primary on April 19. See their explanation, here.
Welp, that was awkward! Donald brought the whole crew to his CNN town hall on April 12, and Anderson Cooper asked his kids Ivanka and Eric the question on everyone’s minds: why the heck won’t you vote for your dad? Here’s what they had to say.
“Well I’m an independent and I have always voted based on candidates as opposed to based on the party,” explained Ivanka. “It was actually a very interesting experience. We’re not a family of politicians, we haven’t been in politics very long. New York has one of the most onerous rules in terms of registration and required us to register a long time ago, close to a year ago, and we didn’t do that, we found out about it after the fact.” Eric agreed, saying “It was our first foray into politics we didn’t realize how the whole system worked.”
In order to help other people avoid the same issue, Ivanka has begun making a series of videos to educate voters about the registration rules in each different state so people are aware of the deadlines and don’t lose their opportunity to vote in the primaries.
On April 11 the news broke that Donald’s own children will not be able to vote for him in the New York primary. The reason why is simple: they aren’t registered as Republicans and New York is a cloed primary state, meaning you cannot vote in the primary unless you were previously enrolled in the party. However, if your dad is running for president, and he’s been campaigning for almost a year now, how do you overlook something so crucial?
The New York primary is a vital one to win, with 95 delegates up for grabs and Donald desperate to get the delegates he needs for the nomination. His kids may have really screwed him this time, and their explanation just doesn’t cut it.
