David Gest, 62, was found dead at the Four Seasons Hotel at the Canary Wharf in London on Tuesday, April 12. There is no word on his cause of death at this time, but according to police, it appears to be “non-suspicious.” An autopsy has been scheduled for the prolific music producer and ex-husband to Liza Minnelli, 70.
“Police were called at 10:17 on Tuesday to the Four Seasons Hotel, to reports of an unexplained death of a man in his 60s. London ambulance service were called to the scene,” The Metropolitan police said in a statement. London Ambulance Service were called to the scene. Life was pronounced extinct at the hotel. A post-mortem will be held in due course. Next of kin are in the process of being informed.”
David’s bodyguard, and close friend, confirmed his death to BBC in a heartbreaking statement. It is with great sadness that I can confirm that David Gest has died today,” the statement read. “David was truly larger than life. He was not just a huge talent and a dear friend but a showbiz icon. I know he will be missed by millions of fans around the world, and particularly in Britain, who came to love his charm and blistering one-liners. If I may steal the words of one eminent critic, David was a natural star and a genuine celebrity. I will miss him desperately.”
David was a contestant on the 2016 season of the UK’s Celebrity Big Brother, but had to leave a few days in due to “medical issues..” David was a famed producer, who worked with his close friend, Michael Jackson, frequently. After Michael’s death, he produced the Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Special, the highest rated musical television special in history. He was married to Liza from 2002 to 2007, though they separated in 2003. He had famously accused her of abuse.
