Kanye West took the stage at the Paradise International Music Festival in the Philippines on April 10 and he had a lot to say about Taylor Swift! The rapper not only performed his diss track, ‘Famous’ but he also said he doesn’t regret grabbing the mic from her at the 2009 MTV VMAs.
Kanye West is refusing to back down. The rapper performed his infamous song “Famous” for the first time live and we’re sure Taylor Swift‘s ears were totally burning. In case you forgot, it’s the song where he calls Taylor a “b**ch” and says he should have “sex” with the singer. The crowd went wild during the song, which is probably what boosted Kanye’s confidence to go off on a rant in typical Yeezy fashion.
“You don’t know, it’s really overwhelming for me to perform the song for the first time and for y’all to react to it in that way,” Kanye told the crowd. “There’s something that I wanted to say so bad, that they told me I couldn’t say [referring to the MTV Movie Awards incident in 2009]. That night, when I went on stage was the beginning of the end of my life. Lady Gaga canceled the tour the next day.” But Kanye didn’t stop there, he went on to say that he even though he publicly apologized to Taylor, he still thinks Beyonce should have won Album of the Year. “And I had to fight every day of my life when the whole world turned against me for saying out loud what everyone else felt. But that’s the job of an artist – of a true artist – not to be controlled by the finances, not to be controlled by perception, but only to be controlled by their truth – what you see, what you feel, and say what you f**king feel. You know the night I’m talking about, when I just said what everybody else was thinking. So if I get in trouble for saying the truth, what’s being said the rest of the time?” Wait … so you’re telling us that Kanye learned nothing from the major backlash he got? Not surprising in the least.
Kanye has always sworn up and down that he gave Taylor an advanced copy of “Famous” and that she knew exactly what he was going to be dropping. Plus, he alleges that Taylor gave him the idea for the song! Taylor’s team has a different recollection of what what down. “Kanye did not call for approval, but to ask Taylor to release his single ‘Famous’ on her Twitter account,” her rep told HollywoodLife.com at the time. “She declined and cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message. Taylor was never made aware of the actual lyric, “I made that b***h famous.”
HollywoodLifers, do you think Kanye has a point?
