That’s a wrap! The MTV Movie Awards celebrated the biggest names in film with explosions, sexy kisses and crowd surfing! There were a ton of great moments during April 10 event, from The Rock playing with a flamethrower to Rebel Wilson getting some sugar! Here’s a look at all the highlights.
There is no award show quite like the MTV Movie Awards. Where else can you see The Rock, 43, and Kevin Hart, 36, form the roughest rap-duo since Public Enemy? Melissa McCarthy, 45, certainly won’t go crowd surfing at the Oscars, that’s for sure and that’s why the MTV Movie Awards might be the best show ever. Check out at all the excitement that went down!
The Rock and Kevin proved that the best way to start off any show is with a Max Max-style entrance that included a guitar that shot fire. The Rock, who must have borrowed his flamethrower from WrestleMania 32, quite literally turned up the heat at the start of the April 10 event. The sickest burn wasn’t from his flaming guitar, but on the major shade he and Kevin threw at Dwayne, calling him “chocolate Shrek.”
Halsey, 21, got cool as ice with her Frozen-style performance of her song, “Castle,” but things didn’t stay frigid for long. Ariana Grande, 22, got the crowd feeling steamy by singing “Dangerous Woman” while dressed like Marilyn Monroe. The Rock and Kevin’s rap duo didn’t really give Kendrick Lamar, 28, a run for his hip-hop money, but they did get a funny line in about Leonardo DiCaprio, 41, and a bear.
Rebel Wilson, 36, and Adam DeVine, 32, didn’t need any music to get in the mood, as these two Pitch Perfect stars won “Best Kiss.” Presenter Stephen Amell, 34, usually plays Green Arrow but did he secretly shoot these two with Cupid’s arrows? One minute, Rebel is saying she and Adam don’t have any “sexual chemistry in real life,” and the next, they’re making out all over the stage! Thankfully, they were done by the time Melissa McCarthy crowd surfed over to pick up her Comedic Genius Award.
The MTV Movie awards got serious for a moment when honoring Will Smith, 47, for his amazing career in movies, music and television. Queen Latifah, 46, brought out Halle Berry, 49, and together, they thanked Will for championing diversity in Hollywood before giving him the MTV Movie Awards’ highest honor. “I am humbled,” Will said. “I just want to help in this world.”
Besides the Generational Award, the biggest win of the night went to Star Wars, who took the trophy for Best Movie. While director J.J. Abrams, 49, and actress Daisy Ridley, 24, thanked the fans, the fans returned the love by waving hundreds of lightsabers in the crowd! What an ending!
