‘American Idol’ was definitely an emotional rollercoaster. Not only did it feature an insane amount of alum, it also crowned the person that could be the last winner ever. So, it’s no surprise he collapsed to the floor after the announcement!
Trent Harmon, 25, had to really focus on breathing after the American Idol finale! When Ryan Seacrest announced his amazing victory over La’Porsha Renae, 22, he fell to the ground in happiness — and he told us what exactly was going through his mind at that moment.
“So much decompression got to leave my body in that moment. That’s why I fell on the ground because I finally got to take a breath. I haven’t taken a breath in almost a year,” Trent told reporters, including HollywoodLife.com after the finale on April 8. “This may sound strange but it has. I am fully aware of the fact that all that happened tonight is that it got me to the bottom of the next level. That’s all I really wanted was I just wanted a fighting chance. This doesn’t put me at the top of radio, it doesn’t put me in the top 100, it just gets me to the bottom of the next level up and I’m good with that.”
Of course, he’s not really at the bottom — he was signed to Big Machine Records along with La’Porsha — something Trent was very happy about it. “There’s such a healthy competitive push that we give each other,” he said. “I say La’Porsha sing this, you can sing that better, and she says well you can sing it better on this part. I get to go to work with my best friend still, post Idol.”
Before winning, Trent told us exclusively that he knew he and La’Porsha had talent — and he just wanted to be able to pay his cell phone bill. “I feel like at the end of the day it don’t matter how well you can sing because either of us could win,” Trent said. “Not everybody has the desire to prepare to win so I feel like I have that stay up till as late as it gets until I get it right. As a frontrunner, I do have that!” He then added he just wants “to pay [his] cell phone bill singing!“
Well, I think that’s a possibility now, don’t you?!
