Two people are dead after a shooter opened fire at an air force base in Texas on April 7. Cops are on the scene, responding to the reports of an active shooter as buildings are being cleared out, although the scene appears to be clear moments after shots were fired.
“We have two dead at Lackland Air Force Base, deputies are still inside the building,” Bexar County Sheriff confirmed on Twitter. He also revealed that the attack “appears to be a murder suicide” in a statement to MSNBC.
“We were driving around looking for somewhere to park and an announcement came on all over base saying there was an active shooter in building 147,” an eyewitness, who was heading to an Air Force graduation ceremony when the lockdown was issued. explained. “You saw different airmen running in uniform and people spreading out. We were still in the car debating if we could leave. We parked and were trying to find somewhere to hide out and was pulled into a dark building to hide out.”
The two deaths are the only confirmed at this time. The shooting took place at the Lackland Air Force Base, which is in San Antonio, Texas, and no further details have been released just yet as deputies remain on the scene.
The LAFB is only 160 miles from Fort Hood, where the most deadliest shooting at a military base took place in 2009 — 13 people were killed and 31 were injured in that tragic attack.
