Being crowned the final American Idol is a huge deal, and Trent Harmon is eager to find out if he’s going to take that highly acclaimed spot. The 25-year-old finalist has worked so hard to get to this moment, and as he has prepared to fight for the Season 15 title, Trent has stayed motivated by keeping something in mind: Winning Idol wouldn’t just allow him to start a career, it’d also make it easy to pay his cell phone bill!

“I feel like at the end of the day it don’t matter how well you can sing because either of us could win,” Trent told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “One of my favorite basketball coaches was Bobby Knight, and he always said that everybody wants to win but it is the desire to prepare to win. Not everybody has the desire to prepare to win so I feel like I have that stay up till as late as it gets until I get it right. As a frontrunner, I do have that!”
It certainly sounds like Trent has done everything he possibly can to prepare for the finale. Considering he breezed his way to the Top 2, Trent’s “desire to prepare” for winning has played out exactly how he intended — because clearly America loves him!
But even if he doesn’t take the title, Trent stressed that he’s really just determined to make sure his time on Idol to turn into a career. In fact, Trent told us he wants “to pay [his] cell phone bill singing,” whether he’s an American Idol or not. That’s certainly a humbling goal!
As Trent goes into the finale to face La’Porsha Renae, there’s no doubt he’ll have the motivation it takes to give the best performances to prove that he deserves to win. But with the “desire to prepare” that he has, we’re thinking it won’t be hard for Trent to pay his cell phone bill after Idol even if he doesn’t win — because he’ll be a star either way!
