News travels fast, and country singers flooded Twitter with sweet messages about Merle after his unexpected death. “Love and prayers for the Haggard family,” Carrie wrote. “Merle was a pioneer…a true entertainer…a legend. There will never be another like him.”
Indeed, the “Okie From Muskogee” singer is credited with having a major impact on the country music scene, and has put out successful music his start in the 1970s right into the 2000s. Sadly, Merle’s health has been slowly declining over the past several months, and after a brutal case of double pneumonia in December 2015, for which he was in the hospital for 11 days, his system was seriously weakened. You can stream Merle’s music completely unlimited and ad-free HERE.
The country icon died on April 6, which was actually the same day as his 79th birthday, something he surprisingly predicted before the end of his life, according to his manager. Merle was scheduled to perform several concerts throughout April, but they had to be canceled when his pneumonia came back in March.
