It’s been a very strange year for Manchester United. From being a contender for the Premier League crown, to their spectacular collapse to 6th place in the standings, they now find themselves fighting for a Champions League top-4 finish. Standing in their way is an Everton team that often gets a share of the spoils at Old Trafford. Will United banish their demons against the Toffees? Click down for the live stream!
Somehow during United’s bad run of form, their enigmatic manager Louis Van Gaal managed to keep his job, despite rumors persisting that former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was waiting in the wings to take over. Some reports even suggest he’s signed a pre-contract deal. But alas, Louis is still there, fighting to live another day.
United’s biggest problem this season has been finding continuity in their first eleven. They’ve been upset by injuries, most notably to star striker Wayne Rooney. Plus, new signings and former bf of Karrueche Tran, Memphis Depay and German midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger have failed to impress, despite their heavy transfer fees.
That said, their home form has been their saving grace this season. Having seen off Arsenal on Feb. 28, they boast the 3rd best home record in the Premier League. They’ve also conceded the least amount of goals at Old Trafford — just 7 goals. It’s just a pity on the road they’ve dropped 6 losses, otherwise they may have been closer to the top of the table.
If we get a repeat of the game back in 2011-2012 season, we’d be in for a treat. Both teams that day failed miserably in defense, but in attack they couldn’t help but score goals. It ended 4-4 after the 90 minutes, in a game that severely dented United’s title hopes that season. We want just as many goals this time round!
Given United’s defensive displays at home, it’s hard to see Everton scoring too many goals. But with Romelu Lukaku upfront anything’s possible. He will definitely pose a serious threat to England international star Chris Smalling.
