With GNR finally back together and performing again after all these years, let’s take a look at five fun facts about the band.
1. Guns N’ Roses got their name from a combination of two other L.A. bands monikers.
in 1984 Axl was the lead singer of a band called Hollywood Rose when another band called L.A. guns needed a vocalist. He and guitarist Izzy Stradlin, 53 joined L.A. Guns members to create Guns N’ Roses, even though most of the members from L.A. Guns were later replaced.
2. Guns N’ Roses can thank MTV for their big breakthrough.
The band’s debut album Appetite for Destruction came out in 1987 with it’s first single “Welcome to the Jungle” not going anywhere. When the band finished their 28 month Use Your Illusion tour in 1993, it would turn out to have been their final live performances. They would go on to have such internal turmoil and infighting that Slash left the band and by the late 1990’s it was only Axl left in the group as still had the rights to the band’s name.
