Kelsea Ballerini is riding high in the country music scene, with the rising star being groomed as the genre’s next big thing. She’s the hottest face in Nashville and will be one of the featured performers at the upcoming Academy of Country Music awards show.
Wow! At just 22-years-old, Kelsea Ballerini has set the county music world on fire, and now she’s going to be performing at the ACMs April 3 with none other than red-hot Nick Jonas, 23. We can’t get enough of this country cutie, who is already being called the next pre-pop Taylor Swift, 26, so let’s get to know a little more about Kelsea!
Here are five things to know about Kelsea:
1. Kelsea is a Tennessee native.
She was born in Mascot, TN and grew up on a small farm in nearby Knoxville. She moved to Nashville at age 15, so she’s a total Tennessee girl.
2. Kelsea wrote her first song at age 12 for her mother.
She wrote a song for mer mom because she hadn’t bought a Mother’s Day present. “I called it ‘Oh Mama’, and she loved it — she cried,” Kelsea said in an interview with USA Today. “For a while, I would write her another verse every Mother’s Day.”
3. Keith Urban was Kelsea’s first country idol.
Despite being a Tennessee girl, it was Keith Urban’s 2006 single Stupid Boy that made her want to get into country music. After hearing that tune, she claims her songwriting started “coming from a place of confidence, whereas what I was writing before came from heartbreak.” By 2015 she was the opening act on Keith’s tour! 4. Kelsea’s debut single hit number one on the country charts.
Her first single “Love Me Like You Mean It” came out in June of 2015 and rocketed to number one in country radio airplay and sales, a feat that hadn’t been done since Carrie Underwood’s “Jesus Take The Wheel” in 2006.
5. Kelsea’s already an award-winning singer/songwriter.
In 2015 she was named Billboard Women in Music’s “Rising Star,” and the Academy of Country Music announced she’ll be the 2016 recipient of the New Female Vocalist of the Year award, and she’s up for the ceremony’s prestigious Female Vocalist of the Year honor.
