Not sure what to expect out of ‘The Walking Dead’s season six finale? Well, we’re not sure but with the stars speaking out about the upcoming life-altering episode.
We knew this was coming — but we’re not ready for the season six finale of The Walking Dead. After the penultimate episode left us in an emotional whirlwind, we’re basically left terrified of Negan’s arrival. And we should be. Here’s a round up of some of the ways the cast of the show have explained what we should expect next week.
“Appalling and brilliant”
When speaking to our sister site, Variety, Andrew Lincoln, AKA Rick , called this Sunday’s episode “one of the best, most appalling and brilliant season finales we’ve ever attempted. It made me physically sick when I read it, and if we’ve done it right, you will [be] too.”
“Hardcore, gut-wrenching, mind-blowing”
“It’s the most hardcore finale we’ve ever had. It’s rough. It’s the most gut-wrenching finale yet. And it’s one of, if not the best episode I’ve ever seen of our show. It’s mind-blowing,” Norman Reedus (Daryl) told TVLine.
“Darkest and most extraordinary season finale”
After shooting the finale, Andrew spoke with TheWrap describing what he just shot as “the darkest and most extraordinary season finale that we’ve ever attempted. To say that I’m excited would be a vast understatement. And it ends with a very big bang.”
“The best episode the show’s done”
“Ultimately, I feel like it’s the best episode the show’s done in just reading the script. These last eight episodes are some of the best that the show’s done. Just reading that finale I was, in a sense, speechless,” Josh McDermitt (Eugene) said during a live chat with Comicbook.com!
“Phenomenal… jaws are gonna drop”
“Firstly, it is a phenomenal piece of writing,” Lennie James (Morgan) said. “Secondly, it is one of the greatest introductions of a character that I can remember in any television series, let alone in our television series. It’s a phenomenal entrance. I don’t want to build it up too much but it’s probably to late now. It’s amazing. For me, it was two things really. One was it was a sense of, ‘Oh, my god. That’s gonna be amazing.’ Two was a desire to see it come to fruition and, from all intents and purposes and everything I know, it’s fantastic. Jaws are gonna drop and people are gonna lose their sh-t, if you don’t mind me saying. It’s gonna blow some people’s minds and break some people’s hearts.”
“Wrought; so dark and so compelling”
“I think it’s probably the most wrought, like emotionally wrought, and dark episode I’ve ever read, regardless of this show or not,” Ross Marquand (Jesus) said. “I’ve never seen or read an episode that is so dark and so compelling in my life and that’s the God’s honest truth. I told Andy, I don’t normally get so affected by scripts that I have to put them down, but I had to stop reading this at three different times. I couldn’t read it, it was messing me up. It was tough to read. It’s phenomenal writing but it’s just so emotionally dark and twisted that we had to put it down several times.”
