Instagram, you fave way to post gorgeous selfies, announced that the app will start showing posts in an entirely different order. Um, what? Click through to learn about the changes!
Instagram announced that users will be seeing major changes to their feed sometime very soon. Rather than seeing the people you follow’s photos chronological order, they’ll be organized in an entirely different way! What?? Click through to learn what’s happening!
So don’t panic too much! You’re still going to see all your fave ‘grams, but they’ll be organized in order of who you interact with the most! Instagram stated that people miss on average 70% of the photos on their feeds. In order to correct that, photos will show you pics from the people you “like” the most first, rather than organizing the feed by time stamp as it always has. Whoa!
It’s much like how your Facebook news feed is set up. You don’t see everything that your hundreds of friends post. You just see the content from friends you interact with the most! That works out, right? “If your favorite musician shares a video from last night’s concert, it will be waiting for you when you wake up, no matter how many accounts you follow or what time zone you live in. And when your best friend posts a photo of her new puppy, you won’t miss it,” read a statement from Instagram, posted on March 15.
“What this is about is making sure that the 30 percent you see is the best 30 percent possible,” added Instagram co-founder and CEO Kevin Systrom. It does make sense when you think about it; Facebook owns Instagram, and the social media giant clearly thinks they’ll hit gold a second time with the calculated algorithm!
Instagram users (like Pope Francis!) probably aren’t going to be too happy with this major change at first. Remember how upset everybody was when Facebook first implemented this method? Not good! But Kevin said not to worry. “If it’s one thing we do really well as a company, it’s that we take big change slowly and deliberately and bring the community along with us,” he said. “It’s not like people will wake up tomorrow and have a different Instagram.” Good!
