Dwight shot Daryl. Yes, it happened, right at the very last second of The Walking Dead‘s March 27 episode, it’s last one before the season six finale — which is when Negan is set to arrive. Daryl has been shot, but are we being faked out again like we were with Glenn?
Here’s what goes down: Daryl and Rosita finally discover Dwight’s camp, which they’ve been looking for in order to seek revenge for Denise’s death in the March 20 episode. When they do find the camp they spot Glenn and Michonne, both of whom have been taken hostage by Dwight’s crew. Glenn signals to Daryl that it’s not safe, but our stubborn little redneck decides not to listen. Right before firing his bow at someone, you hear the click of a gun behind him and then Dwight’s voice saying, “Hi, Daryl.”
Rosita and Daryl both put their weapons down in defeat, but when Daryl turns to face Dwight the man with the nasty burn scar on the side of his face fires his gun. You can see the flash from the barrel, and he’s standing so close to Daryl it’s impossible for it to have been anyone else. Plus, as soon as the shot is fired, bright red blood splatters the screen and immediately hides Daryl from your POV.
However, if you look closely through the blood on pause, you can see that Daryl’s skull is still clearly in tact. Now, this doesn’t mean he hasn’t been fatally wounded, but The Walking Dead has faked us out before when they let Glenn fall into a pit of walkers with an already dead Nicholas, so it’s easy to be concerned about believing what you’re seeing on the screen.
Plus, the very last thing you hear before credits roll is Dwight saying that Daryl is going to be alright. Is Dwight a psychic? A doctor? How could he possibly know this?
So, is Daryl dead? Unfortunately we probably won’t find out until the April 3 finale. Needless to say, it’s going to be a very long week for The Walking Dead fans.
