So stunning! Season 5 runner-up Katharine McPhee made a triumphant return to ‘American Idol’ during its farewell season on March 24 to once again perform her signature song, ‘Over The Rainbow.’ And as expected, she nailed every. single. note. Watch the video here!
Katharine McPhee, who arguably should have won Season 5 of American Idol, was the latest alum to return for the show’s farewell season on March 24, when she performed her signature song, “Over The Rainbow.” And just like the first time Katharine performed it in 2006, it gave us all the feels!
Dressed in a pink gown and surrounded by stage fog, Katharine, 32, sang the Wizard of Oz track Judy Garland made famous like a pro! And when she finished belting out the last note, she received a standing ovation from both the judges and the audience. (Duh!) Following her performance, Katharine told host Ryan Seacrest, “It’s good to be back.” And then she was greeted by one of her biggest fans, who said while in middle school, he led a campaign for her, in which he gave classmates donuts if they voted for her.
Katharine competed on the fifth season of the reality show, competing alongside Chris Daughtry, Kellie Pickler and Taylor Hicks. Sadly, Taylor ultimately bested her in the competition, but in our opinion, she totally should have won. Even after 15 seasons of the show, Katharine’s 2006 performance of “Over The Rainbow” still stands out as one of the best performances on the series ever.
