When you’ve got a problem, Olivia Pope can fix it. She went to great lengths to get Mellie’s campaign back on track on the March 24 episode of ‘Scandal.’ And she didn’t play nice.
After Mellie made a big mistake during her campaign, Olivia was forced to fix it. On the March 24 episode of Scandal, Olivia took off her white hat to get the upper hand, she found out why Jake got so close to Vanessa, Vargas’ brother showed up and made quite the entrance, and Susan broke up with David!
The upcoming presidential election on Scandal is so more interesting than the actual 2016 presidential election. Sally Langston was moderating the debate, which was a blessing to us all. Olivia, Hollis and Liz got prepped for the debate, and Olivia threatened to pull Mellie out if she didn’t get what she wanted. Well, that wasn’t a problem for Liv. She got what she wanted out of the debate with the snap of a finger.
Susan was busy practicing for the debate, and she was killing it. Abby even tried to recruit Olivia because Susan’s the “real deal.” Liz even convinced David and Susan to go public with their romance. Even though Mellie was stubborn, Olivia knew she would make a great president. She was sticking with Mells. Oh, but guess who else was running for president? Edison!
David was torn over the two women in his life. He went to Abby to complain about his love triangle. That was a bad idea. Later, Abby accidentally spilled the beans to Susan that David was juggling two women! Susan confronted David about what Abby said, and he swore he was faithful. After his talk with Susan, he broke up with Liz and declared his love for Susan.
Cyrus was also hard at work on Vargas’ campaign. Vargas’ brother, Alex (played by Danny Pino) showed up and swooned everyone. Except Cyrus, who felt a little threatened by the good looking guy in the room.
Alex was a sly guy. He went to Olivia to take his brother’s campaign to the next level. He had on dirt on Susan that Mellie could use, but only if Olivia spilled dirt on Edison to help Vargas. Olivia was a little suspicious, so she had Huck investigate. Alex had run all of his brother’s previous campaigns and won them all, but he wasn’t nice about it.
Olivia had her hands full with Mellie. To the general public, Mellie wasn’t exactly the most favored candidate. She acted like she was smarter than everyone else. Well, she was. Mellie couldn’t really understand why being knowledgable and on top of things was such a bad thing. It was all about the optics right now, so Olivia told Mellie to dumb it down and “lose the b-tch face.”
Mellie had to make a statement in public, so Olivia tried the Gettysburger test. Mellie was doing really well coming across as a normal mom, but then she messed up. Bad. Really bad. She lied in front of the press. Mellie was afraid she couldn’t come back from this and demanded that Olivia fix it.
Making A Deal With The Devil
Olivia mulled over whether or not to take Alex’s bait. She even went to Rowan about it. He surprised us all by telling her not to hurt Edison. Mellie hadn’t messed up, Olivia had by trying to make Mells something she wasn’t. He told her that she shouldn’t make the same mistake with herself.
After some stealth digging by Quinn, she found out what Jake had been up to with Vanessa. He had been using Vanessa’s money to fund Edison’s super PAC! Olivia went right to Edison and pleaded with him not to make a deal with the devil, a.k.a. her dad. Edison shut her down. Bad call, bro.
Olivia texted Jake while he was at dinner with Vanessa and made out with him in the bathroom. She gave him a hand job, too. He tried to push her away, but he couldn’t resist. Olivia Pope even said this to Jake, “No one will ever ride you like I do.” After that, she told him to give her dad a message: she was going to win whatever game they were playing. Boom.
Before the debate Susan asked Fitz why he cheated on Mellie. She was clearly still thinking about what Abby had said. Fitz was brutally honest with Susan. If she thought David was cheating, then he probably was. So she broke up with David and told Liz he would not be getting up on stage with her.
Mellie was slightly freaking out before the debate. Olivia urged Mellie to trust her and let her handle it. Olivia handled it all right. She gave Alex the dirt on Edison in exchange for dirt on Susan. Olivia had once sent Edison to rehab for a painkiller addiction, and whatever Alex gave Olivia on Susan was equally compelling. Is it just me or did I just see a spark between Olivia and Alex?
