So sad! Garry Shandling tragically passed away March 23 at 66-years-old. The funny man died following a massive heart attack, but he leaves behind a comedy legacy that touched so many.
Absolutely shocking! We’re still stunned that Garry Shandling is gone at the too young age of 66, but he left such huge a mark in the comedy world, especially for his award winning work playing a talk show host on The Larry Sanders Show. We’ve got a look back in photos at Garry and his epic career.
Of course we all remember Garry as the genius behind The Larry Sanders Show on HBO. He had so many amazing celebrities come on to spoof themselves, and one of the most epic appearances was by pal David Duchovny, 55, who “Larry” had to beg to be a guest on his final show after another star dropped out. Garry’s character then worried that David was developing a crush on him after asking him to do too many personal things together. Their amazing chemistry actually won the pair an American Comedy Award.
Garry was an icon in the comedy world, and pics show that he counted friends like Jack Black, 46, Judd Apatow, 48, and wife Leslie Mann, 43, as close pals. The funny man was even spotted out at an event with buddies Kathy Griffin, 55 and Better Call Saul‘s Bob Odenkirk, 53, as recently as March 19, looking healthy and well. Another photo shows Garry with superstars Robert Downey Jr., 50, and Mel Gibson, 60, backstage at a comedy awards festival, and it’s clear that he was so well liked in the Hollywood community.
Of course Garry was well known for his hilarious standup routines, with his decades in comedy and trailblazing performances, where he can be seen onstage entertaining audiences over his long career. Another pic shows the boxing fan attending the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Canelo Alvarez fight in Las Vegas back in 2014.
Garry also ventured into film, starring in the 2001 comedy Town & Country alongside friend Warren Beatty, 78, where he starred as Goldie Hawn‘s husband. That must have been a pretty sweet experience! He also voiced the lead box turtle character in the 2006 animated comedy Over The Hedge.
Out thoughts go out to Garry’s family, friends and fans.
