Another day, another presidential primary event! The Arizona, Utah and Idaho primaries on March 22 have been combined into an event called ‘Western Tuesday’! Not sure what to expect? Click through for the important details!
Western Tuesday marks the GOP and Democratic primaries in Utah and Arizona, and the Democrats-only primary in Idaho! The March 22 election event could be a game changer for the five remaining presidential candidates: Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, John Kasich, Ted Cruz, and Donald Trump. So what’s the big deal?
We’ve moved onward and upward since Super Tuesday and its sequel, Super Tuesday, and this election event is the latest hurdle to clear. As the candidates face off in the Rockies and the desert, it’s all about delegates, baby! Results for the primaries will all be coming in late this time around. Arizona’s GOP and Democratic results should be seen around 10:00pm ET, the Idaho democratic winner at 9:00pm ET, Utah democrats at 10:30pm ET, and Utah GOP results at 1:00am ET!
Why the disparity between party results in Utah results? The state is allowing republicans to vote online for the first time! So convenient! While voters can head to the polls as normal, they’re able to continue voting online until 10:00pm local Mountain time.
Trump is currently the GOP frontrunner by far, and he’s nearing the 1,237 delegates needed for the party nomination each day. Ted Cruz is relying on Utah to stop that from happening. He’s hoping to get more than 50% of Utah republicans on his side, and if that happens, he’ll grab those 40 delegates at stake! Ted’s plan is ambitious, but strategic; Arizona’s 58 GOP delegates are awarded on a winner-take-all basis, and Trump has been polling very well in the state.
Remember how 2012 presidential candidate Mitt Romney straight up hates Trump? The Mormon Utah voter is campaigning for Ted in his home state, and doing his best to make Trump’s loss a reality. This is going to be juicy! For the democrats, it’s time to see if Bernie can gain any ground against Hillary!
She’s currently polling well in Arizona, where 75 delegates are on the line, but Bernie could counter it with Utah’s 37 delegates, as well as 23 delegates in the democrat-only Idaho primary. Is she going to get Berned? Game on! HollywoodLife.com will update you with the Western Tuesday primary results as they get released throughout the night!
