Just a reminder — the coaches each have an adviser to help coach their teams for the Battles: Adam’s teamed up with Tori Kelly, Christina brought in Patti LaBelle, Pharrell has Diddy and Blake welcomed back former judge (and his girlfriend) Gwen Stefani.
The first Battle of the night is between Adam Wakefield and Jared Harder from Team Blake. The country singers perform “Can’t You See” by the Marshall Tucker Band, with Adam on piano and Jared on guitar, adding uniqueness to the performance. Blake declares Adam the winner, and unfortunately, none of the other coaches decide to steal Jared, so he’s sent home. Stream music from The Voice coaches completely unlimited and ad-free RIGHT HERE.
Pharrell’s artists Emily Keener, 17, and Jonathan Bach, 20, are next to take the stage. Their coach chooses Ellie Goulding’s “Explosions” as a fit for their eclectic voices, and it’s a great decision…the performance is so haunting, yet powerful at the same time. Obviously, it’s a tough decision for Pharrell, but he goes for the singer he can best “invest his guidance in,” and chooses Emily to keep on the show.
Next up is Daniel Passino and Kristen Marie from Christina’s team, Xtina and Patty can’t help but point out how cute the pair would be as a couple. This gives them great chemistry and connection during their performance of “Turning Tables,” and deciding who to eliminate really has their coach in a pickle. “I feel like I’m going to go here with the person who’s more sure of themselves and what they want to me,” Christina explains, and eventually picks Daniel to keep on her team.
Unfortunately, there’s not time to show all the Battles, so in a quick round-up, we learn that Pharrell pairs up Jonathan Hutcherson and Moushimi, choosing the latter to keep on his team. Meanwhile, Adam has Katherine Ho and Lily Green face-off, and decides to bring the former to the Knockouts. Finally, Blake had country singer Angie Keilhauer go head-to-head with pop hopeful Teresa Guidry, and it’s obviously no surprise that he keeps the country vocalist around.
Abby Celso and Brian Nhira from Pharrell’s team are the next duo to Battle, and they’re given Maroon 5’s “Sugar” to sing right in front of its original vocalist, Adam — talk about nerve-racking! Things get a little difficult when Pharrell and Diddy have a little disagreement over the direction to give, but the performance turns out to be pretty incredible. All three fellow coaches say they would pick Brian, but Pharrell pulls a shock and chooses Abby…which seems to be a calculated move so one of the other coaches go for the steal. Adam and Christina take the bait and push their buttons, giving them a chance to battle it out and get Brian on their teams. Brian ultimately decides to make Adam his new coach, filling both the singer’s steal spots.
But it’s Adam’s original team members, Caroline Burns and Mike Schiavo, who are up to battle next. The duo sing Meghan Trainor and John Legend’s duet “Like I’m Gonna Lose You,” and it’s absolute perfection! Caroline is the winner of the Battle, which is such an exciting story since she auditioned last season and didn’t even get a chair to turn around. Yay!
The final battle of the night is between Christina’s singers Alisan Porter and Lacy Mandigo and it’s without a doubt the performance of the night. The ladies absolutely slay their rendition of “California Dreamin!” Christina makes the tough decision to keep Alisan around, but it’s not the end of the road for Lacy — Blake is the only coach of the three with a steal left, and he pushes his button to keep the 18-year-old in the competition. So exciting!
The Battle Rounds conclude on March 22, with Christina holding the only final steal — it’s sure to be epic, so stay tuned!
