Woah! Hulk Hogan is continuing to make Gawker pay for releasing his very graphic sex tape without his permission in 2012. He already got $115 million from his initial lawsuit, but on Mar. 21 he was awarded even more money in punitive damages – $25 million more! Here’s the scoop.
Hulk Hogan, 62, is putting the smackdown on Gawker! After already winning $115 million against the news outlet for publishing a very explicit sex tape without his permission, he took home another $25 million after the punitive damages were revealed on Mar. 21. We have all the details, right here!
Wow, Hulk really showed Gawker who’s boss! The legendary wrestler was awarded another $25 million in punitive damages by a Florida jury in his case against the website on Mar. 21, adding to the already shocking amount he won in the original case.
Gawker disgustingly invaded Hulk’s privacy in 2012 when they released a video of him and his friend Bubba The Love Sponge’s wife having sex on their website. Hulk filed a lawsuit against the media giant and on Mar. 18 he finally won. We were shocked to hear that Gawker was ordered to hand over a staggering $115 million, but that number continued to grow as punitive damages were announced on Mar. 21.
In an attempt to sway jurors from inflicting even more fees against the company, Gawker’s attorney Michael Berry told them that the damages were already too high for the company to pay, perhaps debilitating the news organization to the point of no return.
Financial documents released to the court claim that Gawker is worth $83 million and that the owner, Nick Denton, who is also included in the lawsuit, is worth between $117 and $121 million. The original $115 million could already have put them out of business, but another $25 million on top of that definitely doesn’t help. However, the company does plan to appeal the decision on the grounds that Bubba himself never testified and he is a key witness.
