Villanova moved into the Round of 32 with the second largest win record in the First Round. They taught UNC Asheville a lesson in a 86-56 demolition, so they will be looking for a repeat performance against a much stronger team in Iowa at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Iowa had a little bit more bother getting to this stage, edging out Temple 72-70 in overtime in a much closer game than experts thought on Mar. 18. The Hawkeyes have the ability to beat any team in the field, but they looked sluggish and far from a contender in that first game.
During the regular season, Villanova has been the more consistent team. They’ve only lost 5 times and managed 30 wins which shows why they’re favorite for the Final Four. But despite Iowa’s less impressive 22-10 record, the Hawkeyes are riding a crest of a wave thanks to some good wins in January and February. So they’ll be coming into this full of belief and confidence.
They will be overly reliant on senior forward Jarrod Uthoff to come up with the goods. He scored an impressive 23 points in that win over Temple, which included 5 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Villanova has danger men all over the court — as was proven in their win over UNC Asheville in which 7 players scored over 7 points. And with Daniel Ochefu looking fit and healthy after having ankle problems in the Big East Tournament, this could well be their year.
