Formula One driver Fernando Alonso miraculously escaped unhurt after a spectacular crash at the Australian Grand Prix on Mar. 20. Click to see the terrifying moment his car flipped during the race.
How did he come out of this unscathed? Fernando Alonso, 34, is a lucky man after surviving a horrific accident at the Australian Grand Prix on Mar. 20. His crashed with rival Esteban Gutierrez on a sharp bend as he attempted to overtake his rival, with his car smashing into the wall after flipping.
The nightmare moment happened on the 17th lap of the prestigious race at Melbourne’s Albert Park when Fernando attempted to take the outside lane. However, when Esteban suddenly hit the brake the two collided and spun out of control.
This meant,the Spanish former Formula One champ ended up running over the back of Esteban’s car and destroying his front tire. He crashed into the wall, flipping in a incredibly lucky way that meant there was minimal impact on Fernando and more on the car.
Esteban was obviously very concerned for Fernando and raced over to the wreck to check on him. He gave his pal a pat on the back and a hug as the two obviously thanked their lucky stars!
Speaking about the incident after the race, Fernando revealed his first thought after the incident. “My mum will be watching on TV,” he said with a relieved look on his face. How sweet! It must’ve been terrifying for her to see her son in that kind of accident.
As for the race itself, Nico Rosberg was victorious even though he led the race for less laps than Sebastien Vettel, who finished third. Last season’s Formula One champ Lewis Hamilton finished the race in second.
