This game may very well be the definition of “hate-watch. Two of the most despised teams in the NCAA Tournament, Duke and Yale, will play each other. It’s a March Madness game where fans want everyone to lose – so who’s going to win?
Whether basketball fans like it or not, one of these teams has to win. The Yale Bulldogs will the Duke Blue Devils on March 19 at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island. The action kicks off at 2:40 P.M. EST so be ready to hate-watch like you’ve never hate-watched before.
This match has been called “the preppiest NCAA Tournament pairing of all time,” according to The Big Lead, and Slate’s Josh Levin has called this game “the most irksome game in the history of America’s least irksome sporting event.” Both schools are considered the home of privileged dudes in polo shirts with collars popped, talking about their yachting clubs. For some fans, it’s hard to get behind one of these squads. See whom President Barack Obama, 54, picked to go all the way.
Duke tends to win a lot (they’re the 2015 NCAA tournament champions) and their player, Grayson Allen, 20, looks like the most hated man in Congress, Ted Cruz, 45. Double the hate! However, Yale, a No. 12 seed, won a March Madness game for the first time since 1962, according to ESPN, upsetting the No. 5 seed Baylor. While that might make them a “Cinderella story” they came into the tournament with some heavy baggage. Before March Madness began, Yale expelled the basketball team’s captain, Jack Montague, over accusations that he sexually assaulted a female student on campus, according to Yale Daily News.
Yale and Duke played in Nov. 2015, and during that meeting, Yale struggled to light up the scoreboard, according to the Washington Post. However, Duke had Amile Jefferson, 22, who’s now out of the year. Amile’s defense helped propel the Blue Devils over the Bulldogs, but without him, Yale has another chance to pull off a major upset – especially if Makai Mason scores another 31 points like he did against Baylor.
Who do you think will win this game, HollywoodLifers? Or, which team do you really want to see lose?
