“When it was popular to shit on Iggy, what was the lowest point for you?” J. Cruz from Power 106 radio asked Iggy, to which she was able to laugh about how things just kept getting lower and lower. But then things got deep, and she revealed that things got so bad she wondered if taking her own life would make things better.
“I don’t know, there were times when I just wanted to quit life, the whole thing, really,” Iggy said, hesitating and clearly unsure if she wanted to admit the dark thoughts she was having at the time. But when the radio show host asked point blank if she was “feeling suicidal,” Iggy ‘fessed up.
“Kind of, sometimes I did. Sometimes I would drive through the canyons to get to my horses and I would be like, ‘What if I just kept driving off the canyon?’ Sometimes I would feel like that,” she admitted, explaining that it wasn’t just the hate she was receiving online and in the music industry, but also the idea of her career as an artist being over for good. Wow.
Despite everything Iggy went through, she shared that she is glad it happened. “I would always just think if I can just make it down to my horses and go ride my horses and see how I feel after that, and I always felt better after I did that. Just take it day-by-day,” Iggy said. Her horses saved her life!
Iggy also credits her fiance, Nick Young, for giving her a “companionship” she craved and helping her get through the critics and things like Erykah Badu‘s diss at the 2015 Soul Train Awards. “I know he loves me,” she said later in the interview. That’s so sweet, and we’re so glad she had Nick to rely on when she needed support.
