It’s a big ask! # 16 seed Holy Cross Crusaders and the Oregon Ducks will do battle on Mar. 18 at 7.27 p.m. EST, with the top seed Oregon clear favorites to progress to the next round. But in the NCAA Tournament you can never be sure what to expect because stranger things have happened. Click down to access the live stream to see if a shock’s in store!
Holy Cross has already proven to be quite the Cinderella story already. In their NCAA Tournament First Four match up against Southern they surprised many by coming out on top 59-55 in Dayton, Ohio on Mar. 16. What’s even more impressive is they entered the Patriot League tournament seeded #9, but beat four higher-seeded teams to win the league title to earn their place in the pool of 68 teams. They know how to spring a surprise on us!
But Oregon might be a step too far for Holy Cross, because it’s worth noting a team seeded #16 has never beaten the #1 seeded team in the NCAA Tournament. However, there’s always a first time for everything and if complacency creeps into Oregon’s game a giant-killing could be on the cards.
You expect Oregon to be ready though. After all, not only are they the number one seed in the region, they’re also ranked 5th in the country, are the Pac-12 regular season and tournament champion.
That means, as per senior forward Dwayne Benjamin‘s recent press conference interview, they will be prepared for any chance of an upset by rising to the occasion. “Everybody wants to get the upset, so we’re just going to have to play harder and just be more dialed in,” Dwayne said. “We just got to stick to the principles that have been helping us out, that helped us win the Pac-12 tournament as the No. 1 seed. We feel like we’re playing the most together we have all year, and it’s coming at the right time.”
Either way, it promises to be a fierce contest with reputations on the line for the right to get to the second round. We cannot wait!
