Gwen Stefani got DEEP about her whirlwind romance with BF Blake Shelton on March 15. So much so that in an extremely heartfelt interview, the singer even admitted that yes, Blake ‘saved’ her life after her devastating divorce. How beautiful is THAT?
We’ve never quite seen Gwen Stefani, 46, be so, well, RAW before. But with the release of her new album, ‘This Is What the Truth Feels Like,’ Gwen has admittedly created the most honest and personal record of her career. And it just so happens that her major source of inspiration was her new beau, Blake Shelton, 39. Gwen has even revealed that his love was a surprising “gift.” SO sweet!
“I think that when you go through what I went through, or what I’m still going through, you think you’re hopeless. You don’t know what’s going to happen,” Gwen revealed in an interview with Refinery29 published on March 15. “You panic. It was a really super-unexpected gift to find a friend, somebody who happened to be going through the exact same thing as me, literally mirroring my experience. I don’t think it’s an accident that that happened. It saved me,” the Voice star continued. Wow, talk about a beautiful love story! Just when Gwen believed all hope was lost, Blake swept in and showed Gwen how to love again. Does this sound like a fairytale romance or what? But although the couple is thankful now for fate bringing them together, what originally brought them to this point was actually a string of heartbreaking events — for both Gwen AND Blake.
Blake and his ex-wife, Miranda Lambert, 32, split in July 2015 after being married for four years. And only one month later, Gwen called off her 13-year marriage to Gavin Rossdale, 50, after discovering he had cheated on her with their nanny — so awful. She and Blake started dating a few months later after the reality show, The Voice, brought them together. Sounds like destiny to us!
And apparently Gwen thinks so too. After all, her heart-wrenching breakup with her longtime love eventually led to not only finding complete happiness with Blake, but also a killer album that’s emotional, vulnerable, and like nothing Gwen has ever done before.
“We wrote a song called ‘Rocket Ship,’ and that’s when the label said to me, ‘Listen, we think this overall album you’re writing is too personal. We don’t think people are going to relate. You should just put out an art record,'” Gwen revealed. “And I was like, ‘Are you kidding me?’” I’m literally channeling God here. I’m saving my own life with this record and you come and punch me in the face?’ The next day I went in and told those guys, ‘Let’s write the most fucking personal shit, ever — opposite of what anyone would want to hear.’ And that’s when we wrote ‘Used to Love You.’”
Gwen’s new album, This Is What the Truth Feels Like, is available on March 18. And of course Blake was one of her biggest inspirations for the creation. “I didn’t have any kind of musical direction for this album,” Gwen gushed. “Every song was written around emotions. Of course [our relationship] was an influence… Every song was written purely out of whatever my heart was going through at that moment.” Well it certainly doesn’t get much more honest — and romantic — than that. We can’t wait to hear her full album!
HollywoodLifers, what do you think of Gwen’s confession? Are you surprised that Blake saved her?
