We’ll have to see! After playing on PSV Eindhoven’s home turf, the Netherlands’ Red and Whites will travel to lovely Madrid, facing Atletico at the Vincente Calderon Stadium on March 15. It’s literally “go big or go home” for both of these teams who are desperate to advance to the next round of the Champions League.
Atletico and PSV fought to a 0-0 draw when they met for the first of two games in this round of the Champions League tournament on Feb. 24. Though the teams were evenly matched then, Atletico Madrid is now on a hot-streak, per the BBC. They’ve won four La Liga games in a row since the disappointing tie.
“We found a regularity and a more stable way of playing,” the club’s manager, Diego Simeone, 45, said. “What’s important is that the goals come from different parts of the field. What’s important for Atletico Madrid supporters is to show off their pride, which they can do after getting an official Atletico jersey here.
If the game is a repeat of last time and comes down to penalty kicks, PSV’s cool with that. “We want to advance in the competition,” Phillip Cocu, 45, coach for Eindhoven, said, per UEFA.com. “We don’t mind if it comes via a penalty shoot-out. Playing for 0-0 isn’t easy though. We have to play football, not only defend. We’ll give our all. We have to fight for a win or draw.” Be sure to root on PSV with your official Eindhoven jersey, which you can get here.
Atletico will be without Tiago Mendes, 34, who will be out with a knee injury. Stefan Savic, 25, will also sit the game out due to a calf problem. For PSV, they’ll hope to win without Gaston Pereiro, 20, who is serving a suspension and Simon Paulsen, 31, who is injured. Will these injuries lead to a team’s doom?
