Things are well underway on Season 10 of ‘The Voice,’ but with all the talent in this year’s competition, it’s not easy for the coaches to make eliminations. They’re forced to do just that in the March 15 Battle Rounds episode, though, and we have a recap of everything that went down right here!
How are Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Pharrell and Christina Aguilera possibly going to get rid of HALF their team members in the Battle Rounds of The Voice? Read our recap of the March 15 episode to see which singers are moving on, who’s heading home and who’s getting a second chance thanks to another coach’s STEAL button. It’s totally intense!
In case you forgot, each coach has a very famous adviser for the Battle Rounds. Christina brought in music legend Patti LaBelle, Adam recruited newbie Tori Kelly, Pharrell teamed up with Diddy and Blake brought back former Voice coach, not to mention his girlfriend, Gwen Stefani. Who better to help mentor these incredible up and coming singers?!
The first battle of the night is between Shalyah Fearing, 15, and Tamar Davis from Christina’s team. The ladies’ superstar coach chooses “Lady Marmalade” as their song, which is huge, because Patti sang it originally and Christina herself epically covered it with Lil Kim, Mya and Pink. But Shalyah and Tamar totally do it justice, making it a tough decision for their coach. Xtina chooses Tamar to keep on her team because “she’s been waiting a long time for this and she deserves this and she killed it.” It’s not the end for Shalyah, though, because Pharrell uses his second and final Steal to take her under his wing. Blake’s first Battle pairing of the night is Justin Whisnat and Mary Sarah, two of his many country artists. They’re given Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty’s duet “Louisana Woman Mississippi Man” to sing, and it’s just perfect for their mix of vocals. Blake is so impressed with both his team members, but he decides to keep Mary around, and Justin’s performance just wasn’t enough for any of the other coaches to steal, so he’s headed home.
Up next is a battle between Jessica Crosbie and Nick Haeglin from Team Pharrell. The singers are both from Atlanta, and their coach, who points out that the two are very different artists, gives them “Electric Feel” to perform. Opposites are clearly able to work together sometimes, though, because the battle is incredible, but Pharrell can only save one contestant, and he chooses Nick. But, out of nowhere, Adam pushes his button and steals Jessica to give her a second chance!
Chelsea Gann and Kata Hay from Team Christina are next to battle it out. The ladies sing Melissa Etheridge’s “I’m The Only One,” giving them a chance at a loose, raw performance. The result is incredible, but in hopes of keeping her team as strong as possible, Christina picks Kata, who’s actually a country singer, to stick around.
A Team Adam battle is next, and he pairs Natalie Yacovazzi and Nate Butler to go head to head in the singing competition. The singers are given “Hollow,” a song by their adviser, Tori, to perform, which obviously puts an added amount of pressure on them. In making his decision, Adam is looking for which team member is most improved, and he ultimately decides to keep Nate.
The final battle of the night is between Pharrell’s artists Hannah Huston and Maya Smith. The gals do an incredible rendition of Sia’s “Elastic Heart,” and it totally blows everyone away! Pharrell chooses Hannah to stay on his team, but it’s no surprise when Christina pushes to steal Maya. She’s completely caught off guard, though, when Blake comes in for the steal, as well, and a new battle begins as they fight for the artist they want. In the end, Maya chooses Christina with no hesitation, and gets to stay in the competition. Yay!
The Battle Rounds continue on March 21. Who’s your favorite contestant on Season 10 so far, HollywoodLifers? Did any of your favorites get eliminated yet?
