The competition is well underway on Season 10 of ‘The Voice,’ and in the March 14 episode, the coaches’ complete teams are finally revealed! Read our recap to catch up on what went down as the Blind Auditions ended and Battle Rounds began.
Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera, Pharrell and Blake Shelton completed their teams on The Voice with 12 singers each in the March 14 episode, and things were more intense than ever as the Battle Rounds kicked off. Incredible performances led to more than one Steal, and we have a full recap of what went down!
At the beginning of the episode, Adam, Christina and Blake all have one spot left, while Pharrell has two. But before getting down to business, the coaches all gather together on stage to sing Stevie Wonder’s “I Wish” and it’s obviously incredible — it’s no wonder they’re four of today’s biggest stars! The first contestant of the night is Jared Harder, who makes an interesting choice by singing female singer Kacey Musgraves’ “Merry Go Round” because he can relate to it on a personal level. The performance grabs Blake’s attention, and since he’s the only one to push his button, Jared finds his home with a fellow country singer, and Blake’s team is complete. Next up, Moushumi, 22, who quit studying to become a doctor in order to pursue music, takes the stage. Adam and Christina turn around right away and Pharrell eventually joins in, and the three fight HARD to get Moushumi on their teams. But it’s Pharrell who wins the battle, adding an 11th member to his new crop of talent.
With only one spot left each, Adam, Christina and Pharrell are super picky, and they pass over a whole slew of artists — until Katie Basden performs. Adam immediately pushes his button for her rendition of “Midnight Rider,” and Pharrell follows. At the very last second, Christina goes for it, too! Katie is a country singer, so with Blake out of the picture because his team’s full, the other coaches finally have a fair shot at an artist in that genre. Blake begs Katie to just NOT choose Adam, but it doesn’t work, and with that, the Maroon 5 frontman’s team is complete.
Jonathan Hutcherson is next to sing and he performs One Direction’s hit “You & I.” Pharrell is initially hesitant, but with some nudging from Adam, he turns around, and with Christina holding out, the “Happy” singer automatically adds Jonathan to his squad. And #TeamPharrell is complete! That leaves Xtina with the only open slot left, and with an amazing performance of “Skyfall” by Adele, Ayanna Jahnee is the one to fill it.
And onto the battles we go! For this round, the coaches each have an adviser, and Adam and Tori Kelly are featured first while they work with Katie, from earlier in the episode, and frontrunner Ryan Quinn, an instant fan favorite after his Blind Audition. Adam chooses “Maybe I’m Amazed” as the duo’s battle song, and despite being the underdog, Katie is right there with Ryan the whole way. It’s obviously an agonizing decision for the pair’s coach, but he picks Ryan to keep on his team.
The journey isn’t over for Katie, though, because Christina and Blake both push their buttons to steal her! Now, it’s up to Katie (again) to choose her coach, and Adam obviously wants his ex-team member to go against his nemesis Blake. Katie doesn’t listen, though, and stays true to her country roots by going with #TeamBlake!
Gwen Stefani returns to The Voice next as her boyfriend, Blake’s, adviser, and she’s the perfect person to help out his pop artists, Brittney Lawrence and Paxton Ingram, as they prepare for their Battle. The singers perform Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes‘ duet “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” and it’s totally amazing. The decision is ultimately up to Blake, though, and he decides to keep Paxton around for the Knockouts, sending Brittney home.
Christina’s adviser is the legendary Patti LaBelle, and together, the powerhouse singers help coach Bryan Bautista and Malik Heard for one of the most epic Battles the show’s ever seen. The guys sing “It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s World,” and the whole thing just continuously gets better as it goes on, leaving Christina with a really tough decision to make. Luckily, the other coaches make it clear that whoever she doesn’t pick will be stolen, and when she decides on Brian, Adam, Pharrell AND Blake all push their buttons to try and snatch up Malik. After hearing all the pitches, Malik decides to head over to Team Pharrell — yay!
The Blind Auditions continue on the March 15 episode — stay tuned!
