Kate Middleton is fashion royalty so if anyone can pull off a totally gray head-to-toe look it’s her! And while sporting such a dull color can easily wash someone out, Kate effortlessly paired her Commonwealth service look with polished accessories and minimal makeup to stand out.
For a master class in pulling off a super trendy one-hued look, rip a page out of Kate Middleton‘s, 34, book. Rocking a monochromatic outfit can be a challenge — especially in a lackluster shade like gray. But as the Duchess of Cambridge arrived at the annual Commonwealth service on March 14 sporting nothing but the dusty shade, she instantly became the star of the show. Doesn’t she look amazing?

No one can argue that Kate doesn’t know how to color coordinate her outfits. After showing up at Westminster Abbey for the Commonwealth service in a gray Erdem coat and matching accessories, you could actually claim that the Duchess is a master at matching. And we’re loving it — after all, when Kate does matchy matchy, the result is anything BUT boring!
The demure light grey, checked coat, costing £2,500 (aka $3,574), had an atypical lace pattern in a darker shade three quarters of the way down making it totally unique and unapologetically feminine with a slight edge. SO stunning! To keep her gorgeous printed coat center stage, Kate teamed the piece with plain accessories in the same hue. She opted for a wide-brimmed hat, a pale gray clutch, and simple, round-toed pumps.
Her hat, made by 90-year-old John Boyd, featured a gray, satin ribbon around the brim, which added interest and texture — we love her choice! John has been making hats since 1947 and it just so happens that he was one of Princess Diana‘s favorite milliners. Coincidence? We think not! After all, Kate has been known to give honorable style nods to the late Princess.
Kate showed up for the grand event with her husband Prince William and brother-in-law, Prince Harry. Rocking Winona suede heels designed by Rupert Sanderson, Kate undoubtedly looked stunning. She makes looking gorgeous in gray SO easy, no?
But grey isn’t the only color Kate looks breathtaking in. It just so happens that her favorite coat is green! And she loves it so much that she’s already a triple repeater with this one. But who can blame her, green DOES look amazing on the Duchess. And let’s not forget the neutral tweed skirt she wore for guest editing the Huffington Post UK, she looked so sharp and chic. Is there any look this fashionista CAN’T pull off?
