Beautiful Joey Feek was honored in a public memorial service on March 13 in her home town of Alexandria, IN. The late singer’s fans, along with Rory and Indiana Feek gathered for a massive and emotional celebration of Joey’s life.
Joey Feek was laid to rest on March 8 in a sweet ceremony at her family’s farm in Tennessee, but those who weren’t able to attend the private gathering — her fans — wanted to find their own way to honor their hero. A loving memorial service was held for Joey at the Alexandria-Monroe High School gymnasium, in Joey’s hometown of Alexandra, Indiana on March 13 at 2:30pm local time.
Joey was proud of her Indiana roots, and it’s where she spent the last months of her life fighting stage IV cervical cancer. It was only fitting that the people who live in the place that she loved so much come together and share their love for her! When her husband Rory Feek and their baby girl, Indiana Feek walked into the auditorium, they got a standing ovation. Watch the video below of the memorial, it’s incredibly moving.

The memorial was held at the same high school that Joey actually attended as a teenager. The guests sang “Lean On Me” and Rory, along with Joey’s former basketball coach and sisters spoke at the memorial. Rory’s two daughters from a pervious marriage, Heidi and Hopie, as well as Joey’s mother, father and siblings, all attended as well. It’s been an emotional, painful week for the whole family.
Joey’s private funeral, held on March 8, just several days after her death, brought together so many friends and family to witness something breathtaking. As Joey requested, she was buried in a simple casket made from wood from their farm, the lid adorned with a large cross. She was buried at the farm, casket carried to its resting place by an 1860s wagon pulled by mules. A space was left next to her grave site to that Rory would be buried by her side one day. Tears? Tears!
HollywoodLifers, our thoughts are with Joey’s loved ones during this sad time.
