Get ready, cause here it comes! March Madness begins with “Selection Sunday” on Mar. 13, and we want to help you kick off the big tournament with style. Here are 8 tips for throwing a March Madness party that will have your friends and family amazed.
It’s time for March Madness! The big basketball tournament officially kicks off on Mar. 13 with “Selection Sunday”, and we’re going to celebrate with a ballin’ party! If you’re planning to do the same, we have all the tips you need to be the hostess with the mostest. Check ’em out, here!
Mar. 13 is the big day! The day 68 teams will be selected for The Big Dance. We can’t wait to find out who made the cut, and who we and our friends will be rooting for for the rest of the NCAA season. To ring in the tournament, we’re planning a next-level party, and we want to help you do the same. Here are our best tips:
1. It all starts with the invite.
Why not make your brackets your invitation? That way you don’t need to waste party time filling them out, and you can dive right into the pool. The betting pool, not the swimming pool… unless you’re into that.

2. Speaking of pools.
Everyone loves money, but why limit yourself to some cash that you’ll probably spend on groceries? It’s so much more fun to bet a dinner, a spa day, or even a weekend getaway! That way you know you’ll get something you enjoy, and it’s an excuse for the fun to continue long after March Madness is over.
3. Make your own team jerseys.
Get some plain white t-shirts and use glitter glue and fabric markets to customize them with your favorite teams, logos, or trash talk. Or, cut up and restyle a team shirt. That way you all have a lucky jersey to wear every time you watch a game together.
4. Have a signature cocktail.
Beer in a cute team cup might do the trick, but why not have a little fun with it? Make something the color of your favorite team’s logo, or play it safe by going with orange if you don’t have any specific allegiances. But the easiest way to add some flair to your adult beverages is some cute straws! Check out Aardvarkstraws.com for all of your favorite teams.
5. Snack attack!
Even your most anti-basketball friends will want to stop by your party if you have adorable b-ball themed snacks! Cakepops decorated like basketballs? Cupcakes with your fave logo on them? Sandwiches that spell out “Go Team?” That might be a little extreme, but have fun with it!

6. Get in the game.
There’s bound to be some down time between games. Use that opportunity to get involved yourself! Play a game of HORSE in the driveway, take turns throwing ping pong balls into strategically placed solo cups, or play a little NCAA Basketball 10 on the XBox.
7. Don’t forget to decorate!
Do you have a favorite team? Then put up balloons, banners, napkins and tableware in their colors. If not, go orange and black – you can’t go wrong.
8. Play a drinking game.
Not everyone’s into gambling, but you don’t want people to feel left out. So why not add a drinking game to the mix? Try taking a sip every time someone makes a slam dunk, every time they miss a free throw, and every time there’s a shot clock violation. Or make up your own!
