Manchester United has lost two in row, in the Premier League on March 6 they fell to struggling West Brom 1-0 and in the Europa League they were bossed off the park by a resurgent Liverpool 2-0. So, realistically the FA Cup remains their only trophy to win in what has been another struggling year for the Premier League giants.
West Ham United has enjoyed somewhat of a resurgence under Croatian coach Slaven Bilic. They’ve achieved above-expectations this season and currently sit in a very healthy 5th place in the league. Their confidence has been buoyed by a cup run that has seen them unbeaten in their last 6 games, which included the 5-1 demolition of Blackburn Rovers in round 5 of the FA Cup.
Their danger man is Dimitri Payet. The French playmaker has managed an impressive 8 goals and 8 assists in 22 Premier League games this season, and he’s deadly from a free-kick. Manchester United won’t want to concede too many of those around their penalty area.
Manchester United is besieged with injuries. Wayne Rooney, Luke Shaw and Ashley Young are long-term absentees, while Antonio Valencia, Phil Jones and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson are still out. But they will be happy to have the returning German star Bastian Schweinsteiger and Marouane Fellaini.
Surprisingly, and in the first time perhaps EVER, West Ham will go into this as slight favorites. Will that mean Manchester United will rise to the occasion? We’ll soon see.
