It’s time to wave good-bye to Johnny Football because the Cleveland Browns cut Johnny Manziel on March 11. After Johnny’s numerous scandals and allegations that he beat up his ex-girlfriend, the Browns have given the quarterback the boot!
It’s time for Johnny Manziel, 23, to pack up his bags and get the heck out of Cleveland. After just two seasons in the NFL, the scandal-prone quarterback has been fired from his job with the Cleveland Browns.
The Browns made the official announcement via their Twitter account on March 11, according to TMZ. Yikes – getting dumped via Twitter. There’s really no greater humiliation. However, this development isn’t really that shocking, considering how much trouble Johnny has gotten in over two short years.
“I’d like to thank the Browns for the opportunity they gave me,” Johnny said in a statement following his release. “Nearly two years ago, we all hoped that we were building what could be a championship team for Cleveland. I will always remember the support I received from the organization, my teammates and especially the fans.”
Johnny was actually a hot college football star, having won the Heisman Trophy in 2012. No wonder Cleveland was ecstatic when they snatched him up in the first round of the 2014 draft. They quickly realized they got a bum deal. Johnny entered rehab for his drinking in Jan. 2015, taking time during the off-season to “improve” his life.
It didn’t really work. Johnny was caught drinking and partying just months after completing his rehab. That would be the least of his worries. In Oct. 2015, police stopped Johnny and his then-girlfriend, Colleen Crowley, after they were seen having a major argument inside a moving car. Johnny allegedly had his arm around her neck and Colleen said he forcefully pushed her head against the car’s window.
The drama didn’t stop there. While in Fort Worth, Texas on Jan. 30, the police responded to an alleged altercation between Johnny and his now EX-girlfriend, Colleen. Though Johnny swore that he didn’t beat her up, Colleen reportedly testified that he ruptured her ear. She even reportedly filed a restraining order on him after the alleged assault!
The Browns had grown “weary” of these “antics,” a source close to the team told TMZ. Plus, Johnny might have been great in college, but he’s 2-6 as a starter. He ended up as third string in the NFL, according to the NY Daily News. While Johnny’s time in Cleveland is over, sources tell TMZ Sports there are three teams interested in signing him. So, while Cleveland is so over him, this might not be the last the NFL sees of Johnny Football.
What do you think about Johnny getting cut, HollywoodLifers?
