“Chumlee has been charged with 19 charges of drug possession and each charge could earn him 1-4 years if served consecutively,” Joel Mann, a criminal defense attorney in Nevada tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. Whew — that’s a LOT of time! If you do the math, 19 multiplied by four equals 76, so it’s possible Chumlee could serve as much as seven decades worth of time. Although Joel added that that is unlikely to happen, it’s clear Chumlee is in serious trouble with the drugs and gun charges against him. He’s not letting it bother him, as he’s going clubbing in Vegas one day after he getting out of jail!
And if nearly 20 charges due to drug possession sounds like a lot, that’s because it IS! “Depending on how much drugs he had in his possession it could mean significant jail time,” Joel revealed. But let’s be honest, we knew Chumlee was in hot water from the get-go. Drug possession is no joke so it was obvious that the reality star wouldn’t be getting off easy. Nineteen is just a ton of charges to have piled on! And the lawyer agrees.
“It is unusual that he has 19 drug charges. Typically you have maybe three or four counts of drug possession,” he explained. “Usually it is different types of drugs that you get the different types of possession. I am not sure how he got charged with 19 counts of drug possession. That does seem unusual to me.” But unusual or not, Chumlee could be spending an awful lot of time in prison. And that’s not even considering the sexual assault case he was originally being investigated for.
“As far as the sexual assault charges, typically a so-called victim will get in touch with the police and make a complaint,” Joel said. “Typically the detectives will do an interview with that person. Based on that interview, that will give them enough for probable cause to get a search warrant with a judge.” We know a search warrant was already issued, that’s what got Chumlee in this whole drug mess to be begin with. But is there an actual case for the sexual assault claims?
“Many sexual assaults are based solely on just a person’s testimony and nothing more, no physical evidence,” Joel said. Hmm, so I guess we’re going to have to wait and see on that one. But one thing for sure is crystal clear as of right now and that’s Chumlee is facing some major jail time. “He has some definite legal hurdles to overcome,” Joel revealed.
