The L.A. County Animal Control major case unit has launched an animal cruelty investigation, according to TMZ, as they visited Cesar’s dog psychology center in Santa Clarita, CA March 10. The department was flooded with complaints after the Cesar 911 episode aired which showed a dog attacking and injuring a pig, so authorities are checking on the pig in question.
The video is painful to watch, as Cesar tells the camera about the black and white spotted dog, “He needs to stay calm with other animals, the pigs are just a place to start. But it’s important that I train him properly to behave off leash as well,” as pigs who also belonged to the dog’s owner, are seen roaming around in the background. You can watch the video for yourself below.
As you can see in the video, the mixed breed pup is taken off the leash and is calm for just a second before running straight towards the grazing pigs at full speed and tries to attack a pig before Cesar pulls him off. He gives the dog one of his orderly snaps to stay, but the dog bolts at pig again and this time takes a big bite out of the poor squealing thing’s left ear! The show aired the entire attack and even showed the bloodied pig!
Thankfully for Cesar, NatGeo WILD is standing behind him during this investigation. They told HollywoodLife.com in a statement, “Cesar Millan has dedicated his life to helping dogs and to showing how even the most difficult ‘problem dog’ can be rescued and rehabilitated. In a recent episode of the Nat Geo WILD series ‘Cesar 911,’ Cesar works with an aggressive French bulldog/terrier mix named Simon, who has a history of attacking other animals, including his owner’s pet pot-bellied pigs. A short clip from the episode was shared online and showed Simon chasing a pig and nipping its ear, causing the ear to bleed. The clip caused some concern for viewers who did not see or understand the full context of the encounter.”
The network went on to explain that, “It is important to clarify that Cesar took precautions, such as putting Simon on a long lead to assess his behavior, before making initial corrections and removing the leash. The pig that was nipped by Simon was tended to immediately afterward, healed quickly and showed no lasting signs of distress.”
We are glad to hear that the pig is okay, and that Simon the dog has been properly trained by Cesar and his team.
UPDATE: Cesar released a statement to PEOPLE. He said, “This is what I love about America. In America, animals have rights to a certain extent. And when somebody complains about it the law enforcement have to come and supervise. They do it to everybody and they’re doing the right thing. [The show] is about helping dogs in crisis. To me that’s what the real story is here, some people would like to make it bigger than what it is, they’re taking this story out of proportion. If they watch the episode they can see clearly that the dog and the pig became best friends. The pig and the dog became friends. Nobody is looking at the whole story. They’re looking at a moment that happened, which I understand – it’s a sensitive subject.”
