1. He’s a self-taught musician
Post became interested in music as a teenager, teaching himself how to play saxophone and then becoming a member of his high school’s heavy medal band. He’s also credited Guitar Hero as his initial instructor for the guitar, and he started working on his first self-produced mixtape when he was only 16 years old.
2. He self-released his first hit
After living and working with the YouTube group TeamCrafted in Los Angeles, Post met a producer from FKi Music, who helped him create his first single “White Iverson.” He released the track himself, solely on Soundcloud, in Feb. 2015 and it quickly garnered a ton of interest from fans. In July of that year, he released a video for the song, and it has hundreds of millions of YouTube views. Stream music from Post, Justin and more artists RIGHT HERE.
3. His success earned him a record deal
Following the success of “White Iverson,” Post self-released a bunch of other songs on Soundcloud, and was eventually noticed by Republic Records. He signed a record deal with the company in Aug. 2015.
4. He’s worked with Kanye West
Post is featured on Kanye West’s The Life of Pablo track “Fade.” “It was the scariest experience ever,” he admitted to Billboard. “Letting him listen to your record, when he’s sitting over there and can hear you making weird noises — it’s intimidating, but he is such a cool guy.”
5. He has a lame explanation for his stage name
Post’s real name is Austin Post, which is where the first part of his industry name comes in, but he claims he just “made up” the Malone part.
