Ted Cruz is going to celebrate this victory with potatoes, because the Republican presidential candidate just won the Idaho GOP primary. After the votes were tallied on March 8, Ted left Donald Trump and Marco Rubio in the dust!
Idaho is called the “Gem State,” and for Ted Cruz, 45, spuds are better than diamonds. The Republican presidential candidate won the state’s Republican primary easily, with 43% of the vote to runner up 69-year-old Donald Trump‘s 28%. Marco Rubio, 44, still isn’t making any headway, finishing in third with 17% of voters.
Idaho is one of two places in the world where star garnets can be found, and after the March 8 primaries, that might be the favorite gemstone for Ted as he sailed to victory there. He finally got one state of the night, after Donald walked away with victories in Michigan and Mississippi.
Before the vote, The Donald said he wasn’t even going to campaign in Idaho. “I seem to be doing quite well there,” he told KTVB, “and I think a lot of people are really looking forward, and I know the polls have been pretty good.” However, with Trump leading in the polls, he had a message to all his supporters: “I’ll never forget you and I’ll continue to eat your potatoes – which I’ll do anyway because they’re the greatest in the world – and we’re going to make sure we protect that.”
“I think if anyone can get in there and tell some guys to ‘get the work done or you are out of here – you’re fired,” Ken Georges tells the Idaho Statesman, “[Donald] hopefully can do it.” However, not all Idahoans are for Trump, as Elisha Knudsen says she’s voting for Ted Cruz. “[He is] very, very faithful,” Elisa said. “He says what he means.”
Idaho’s primary rules state that if a candidate wins 50 percent of the vote, they’ll win every one of the 32 delegates, according to Bustle. Going into the vote, Trump was ahead of Ted Cruz, 30% to 19%. Sadly, Marco Rubio hasn’t done well. He’s visited Idaho three times, according to the Idaho Statesman, but could only get 5% of the vote.
