The Notorious B.I.G. was assassinated by an unidentified gunman just two months shy of his 25th birthday — and just six months after the fatal shooting of his rap rival Tupac Shakur. Biggie was shot four times while driving back to his hotel in Los Angeles after attending a party hosted by Vibe magazine and Qwest Records at the Petersen Automotive Museum. He died later that night, March 9, from his injuries. Just one week later, the Los Angeles Times ran an article citing unnamed sources, who said that Biggie’s murder was over a “financial dispute” with the gang, the South Side Compton Crips. Biggie had employed many members as his security team whenever he visited the West Coast. However, this accusation was never proven. Nobody has ever been charged with his death.

The Notorious B.I.G was set to release his second album, “Life After Death,” just two weeks after his death. That album, and “Born Again” were released posthumously. Biggie left behind a wife, singer Faith Evans, whom he married in 1994, son Christopher Wallace Jr. and daughter T’yanna Wallace. May he rest in peace.
