The battle continues between Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton and Pharrell on the March 8 episode of The Voice! As the Blind Auditions start winding down, the coaches are pickier than ever when it comes to pushing their button, but they’re also fighting extra hard to get the singers they really want on their teams. Kicking off this night’s Blind Auditions is Tamar Davis, 35, a former child girl group singer who has worked with Prince and Tyler Perry. She sings “Chain Of Fools,” and Christina pushes her button almost immediately, with Blake coming in at the last second. The two battle it out, but with a nudge from Adam, Tamar picks Christina. Jessica Crosby, a UK native, is next to perform. She’s a Maroon 5 fan who admittedly wants to work with Adam, and totally kills it with her unique rendition of Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida.” Pharrell, Adam and Christina all turn around at the same time, and Jessica shockingly changes things up from her original decision and goes with Pharrell. Talk about livin’ in the moment, right?!
Next up is Justin Whisnant, who hails from Oklahoma — yup, Blake’s home state! When Justin sings country tune “You Ain’t Worth The Whiskey,” Adam turns around quickly, and eventually, Blake gives in, pushing his button toward the very end. Of course, there’s nothing like a good ol’ Adam/Blake battle, especially when Adam is trying to lure a country singer away from his pal! But, as usual, it doesn’t work…and Justin chooses Blake.
Taking the stage next is Jackie Lipson, 25, a bluesy pop singer. She performs “Exes and Ohs” by Elle King, and although Pharrell looks totally intrigued, Jackie just isn’t what the coaches are looking for. But they urge her to come back again next season with a new song choice! Hoping to have better luck is Daniel Passino, 21, a powerful vocalist who sings “Marvin Gaye,” and impresses Christina and Blake, leading to another contest between the two superstars…and Xtina wins it again!
Owen Danoff, whose dad had a successful music career, is up next, and his performance of “Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright” completely blows the coaches away. He becomes the night’s first and only four chair turn, and the four judges put their best pitches out there to win him over. Owen has a tough decision to make, but ends up choosing Adam. I mean, he is the King of four-chair turns, you guys!
31-year-old postal worker Maya Smith takes the stage next and her performance captures Pharrell’s attention. However, he’s forced to fight it out when Christina also pushes her button at the end of the song! But Pharrell’s fast hands get him the win on this one, and Maya becomes the 10th member of his team.
Next up is Nolan Neal, a singer/songwriter who could’ve had a record deal, but had to take time off to deal with a family tragedy. Unfortunately, the coaches don’t pick up on Nolan’s talent in the short performance time, and no one turns around. Hopefully he comes back again next time!
Brittany Lawrence, a cheerleading coach who has auditioned for the show seven times, is next to perform, and she induces chills with her rendition of Demi Lovato’s “Warrior.” Christina is first to push her button, and as has been happening all season long, another coach, this time Blake, comes in at the last second. These two go at it once again, and Brittany chooses Blake. The “Gonna” singer also adds Teresa Guidry, another country singer, to his team, while Christina gains Chelsea Gann and Adam picks up Lily Green.
Next to take the stage is Matt Tedder, who rocks out with an electric guitar. He impresses Adam, who is the only one to turn around, meaning Matt automatically goes to his team. “That is really good news to see that these people are stupid!” Adam jokes of his fellow coaches.
Closing out the night is Joe Maye, who didn’t get a chair to turn around when he performed during Season 9, but won over Christina and Blake (yup, these two again!) this time around by singing “I Put A Spell On You.” Not wanting Blake to take another artist from her, Xtina pulls out all the stops and even sings a duet with Joe right on the spot — even Blake bows down to that one! Obviously, it’s no question, and Joe picks Christina.
Tonight’s team count is: Pharrell 2, Christina 3, Adam 3 and Blake 3, with the totals at 10, 10, 11 and 11, respectively. It’s getting good, and the Blind Auditions will finish up on March 14, leading straight into the highly-anticipated Battle Rounds!
